PRAYER FOR ILLUMINATION

Lord God of love and peace, open our hearts today to receive the invitation of Jesus to come and be present in our lives. Release us from our smallness and create an atmosphere of confession and healing love in our hearts and our spirits. Amen.

Psalm 119:137-144

119:137 You are righteous, O LORD, and your judgments are right.
119:138 You have appointed your decrees in righteousness and in all faithfulness.
119:139 My zeal consumes me because my foes forget your words.
119:140 Your promise is well tried, and your servant loves it.
119:141 I am small and despised, yet I do not forget your precepts.
119:142 Your righteousness is an everlasting righteousness, and your law is the truth.
119:143 Trouble and anguish have come upon me, but your commandments are my delight.
119:144 Your decrees are righteous forever; give me understanding that I may live.

DAILY READINGS

ABUNDANT HEALTH

Liquid Calories
Let them give thanks to the Lord for his unfailing love and his wonderful deeds for mankind, for he satisfies the thirsty and fills the hungry with good things. Psalm 107:8-9 (NIV)

One thing you could do to dramatically improve your health and lose weight is this: Don’t drink liquid sugar calories. This means soda, sports drinks, flavored coffees or teas, energy drinks, juices (except fresh-made vegetable juices).

Liquid calories get deposited directly as that dreaded belly fat. They turn your liver into a fat factory, triggering more insulin resistance and starting a vicious cycle. They mess with your head, increasing your appetite, and keep you from feeling full so you eat more than you normally would in a day. Bottom line: Stick to water or unsweetened, non-caffeinated teas.

PRAYER OF THANKSGIVING

God of redemption and reconciliation, we come to you this morning, hoping to connect with the Divine in our lives. Like Zacchaeus, Jesus calls to us cross the divide of our failures and offenses, beckoning us back into the family. May our gifts be used to right wrongs and to draw others to the life-transforming love of Jesus. In his holy name, we pray. Amen. (Luke 19:1-10)
