<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">PRAYER OF THANKSGIVING</span></h3>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><div style="text-align: justify;">
God of our salvation, we remember that day when the Israelites, escaping their captors, were rescued by you, as you parted the sea to let them cross. Over the years, scholars have struggled with how many died that day that another group might be led to freedom. We offer our gifts to you in thankfulness for all your blessings, knowing others have so much less. Then we remember, that we have been blessed to be a blessing. May the lives we live this day and every day be an offering of blessing to those who are in need. In Jesus, we pray. <b>Amen. </b>(<a href="https://lectionary.library.vanderbilt.edu/texts.php?id=159#hebrew_reading">Exodus 14:19-31</a>)</div>

<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><div style="text-align: justify;">
Surprising God, you show up where we least expect you:</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
in a burning bush, in the face of an enemy, in a livestock feed trough,</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
on a rough wooden cross. Turn our lives upside down with your radical love. Help us fully embrace your surprises, even as we revel in the joy of being fully embraced by your all-encompassing grace and mercy. We pray in the name of your most amazing surprise of all:</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
your Son, Jesus Christ. <b>AMEN.</b></div>

Psalm 149</h3>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
149:1 Praise the LORD! Sing to the LORD a new song, his praise in the assembly of the faithful.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
149:2 Let Israel be glad in its Maker; let the children of Zion rejoice in their King.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
149:3 Let them praise his name with dancing, making melody to him with tambourine and lyre.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
149:4 For the LORD takes pleasure in his people; he adorns the humble with victory.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
149:5 Let the faithful exult in glory; let them sing for joy on their couches.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
149:6 Let the high praises of God be in their throats and two-edged swords in their hands,</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
149:7 to execute vengeance on the nations and punishment on the peoples,</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
149:8 to bind their kings with fetters and their nobles with chains of iron,</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
149:9 to execute on them the judgment decreed. This is glory for all his faithful ones. Praise the LORD!</div>

Self-reflection is an important part of mental health – and these prompts help guide the mind to positive thoughts to make the people happy. This can be practiced at home over normal conversations or through journaling. Making reflection a part of everyday life can help to improve mood.</div>

PRAYER OF THANKSGIVING</h3>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Our God and our Deliverer, as you protected the Israelites in their times of trials, brought them out of Egypt and led them through the wilderness, so you have guided and protected us in our time of trials, anxiety, and uncertainty. In our bringing of our offering today, we remember that in the first Passover, it was the act of an offering that identified households your people, protected by you. We give these gifts in thanksgiving for your care for us, in hope for your continued presence, and as a sign of our desire to follow. In our Savior’s name, we pray. <b>Amen.</b> (<a href="https://lectionary.library.vanderbilt.edu/texts.php?id=158#hebrew_reading">Exodus 12:1-14</a>)</div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Merciful and forgiving God, the tithes and gifts we offer are but a small portion of the blessings we have received. The Gospels remind us that Jesus instructed us to “deny ourselves, take up our cross and follow,” and yet we deny ourselves little, see the smallest of crosses as too great a burden, and follow only from a safe distance. In doing so, we cut ourselves off from deeper experiences of discipleship. Forgive us and renew our strength and discipline to walk this road with our Savior. In his holy name, we pray. <b>Amen.</b> (</span><a href="https://lectionary.library.vanderbilt.edu/texts.php?id=157#gospel_reading" style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Matthew 16:21-28</a><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">)</span></div>

138:1 I give you thanks, O LORD, with my whole heart; before the gods I sing your praise;</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
138:2 I bow down toward your holy temple and give thanks to your name for your steadfast love and your faithfulness; for you have exalted your name and your word above everything.</div>

138:4 All the kings of the earth shall praise you, O LORD, for they have heard the words of your mouth.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
138:5 They shall sing of the ways of the LORD, for great is the glory of the LORD.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">

<div style="text-align: justify;">
138:7 Though I walk in the midst of trouble, you preserve me against the wrath of my enemies; you stretch out your hand, and your right hand delivers me.</div>

PRAYER OF THANKSGIVING</h3>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
God of all creation, as we offer our gifts to you this day, we remember the questions Jesus put to his disciples, “Who do people say that I am? But who so you say that I am?” We pray that we might be ready to answer with our lips, but also with our lives and with our gifts: “You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God!” In his holy name, we pray. <b>Amen.</b> (<a href="https://lectionary.library.vanderbilt.edu/texts.php?id=156#gospel_reading">Matthew 16:13-20</a>)</div>

<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">PRAYER FOR ILLUMINATION</span></h3>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><div style="text-align: justify;">
In the darkness of night and the brightness of day, you, O Lord, are present to us. As we wrestle with situations which seem to drain us of our energy; as we struggle to find out who you call us to be, you reach out to us with reassurance of empowerment and courage for the days ahead. Calm our spirits and prepare our hearts and lives to receive your awesome grace. It is in Jesus’ name that we pray. <b>AMEN.</b></div>

Psalm 17:1-7, 15</h3>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
17:1 Hear a just cause, O LORD; attend to my cry; give ear to my prayer from lips free of deceit.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
17:2 From you let my vindication come; let your eyes see the right.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
17:3 If you try my heart, if you visit me by night, if you test me, you will find no wickedness in me; my mouth does not transgress.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
17:4 As for what others do, by the word of your lips I have avoided the ways of the violent.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
17:5 My steps have held fast to your paths; my feet have not slipped.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
17:6 I call upon you, for you will answer me, O God; incline your ear to me, hear my words.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
17:7 Wondrously show your steadfast love, O savior of those who seek refuge from their adversaries at your right hand.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
17:15 As for me, I shall behold your face in righteousness; when I awake I shall be satisfied, beholding your likeness.</div>

PRAYER OF THANKSGIVING</h3>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Gracious God, we bring our gifts to your altar, asking you to dedicate them to do the work of love and compassion in the world. We learned from Jesus, who had compassion on the crowds who gathered to hear him teach, that putting what we have in the hands of Jesus can bring abundance. Multiply these gifts with the love in which they are offered, that they might bring hope to those in need and might glorify and celebrate your love for all your children. In Christ’s name, we pray. <b>Amen.</b> (<a href="https://lectionary.library.vanderbilt.edu/texts.php?id=153#gospel_reading">Matthew 14:13-21</a>)</div>

PRAYER OF THANKSGIVING</h3>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Mighty God, our comfort and our strength: we have been navigating through this pandemic with anxiety and isolation. We have lived in fear of disease, death, and not having enough. Yet, we are here, offering our gifts to the work of your kingdom and reminding ourselves of the glory about to be revealed to us. Remind us that we are your children, that we are your heirs. Remind us that your plan is not bondage or decay but a love that will save us and free us. In Christ’s name, we pray. <b>Amen</b>. <a href="https://lectionary.library.vanderbilt.edu/texts.php?id=151#epistle_reading">(Romans 8:12-25)</a></div>

PRAYER OF THANKSGIVING</h3>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
God of wisdom and all good gifts: We bring our tithes and offerings to your altar, remembering that, like Abraham, you have blessed us to be a blessing to others. Remind us that the gift of freedom that comes to Christ is also a gift not to be kept but to be shared. Even as the world asserts that freedom is a ticket to “go our own way,” you made us free to be part of Christ’s body in the world, connected and interdependent. May the way we live and the way we give reflect that kind of freedom. In Christ’s blessed name, we pray. Amen. <a href="https://lectionary.library.vanderbilt.edu/texts.php?id=268#epistle_reading">(Galatians 5:1, 13-26)</a></div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">
Holy God, we marvel at your love for all your creation. When Jesus saw the crowds that gathered, he had compassion on them, and his ministry and the church that bears his name must always remember we were born out of compassion. We offer our gifts to continue the work of compassion, but more than this, we offer ourselves, as he also commanded us to “Go!” In his holy name, we pray. <b>Amen.</b> [<a href="https://lectionary.library.vanderbilt.edu/texts.php?id=146#gospel_reading">Matthew 9:35-10:8, (9-23)</a>]</div>

Eternal God, your Spirit moved on the waters— and there was light, your first creation. your Spirit moved on the water of our baptism— and again, there was light in our souls and hearts. Psalm 8</h3>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
8:1 O LORD, our Sovereign, how majestic is your name in all the earth! You have set your glory above the heavens.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
8:2 Out of the mouths of babes and infants you have founded a bulwark because of your foes, to silence the enemy and the avenger.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
8:3 When I look at your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars that you have established;</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
8:4 what are human beings that you are mindful of them, mortals that you care for them?</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
8:5 Yet you have made them a little lower than God, and crowned them with glory and honor.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
8:6 You have given them dominion over the works of your hands; you have put all things under their feet,</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
8:7 all sheep and oxen, and also the beasts of the field,</div>

What do Peyton Manning, Oprah Winfrey, Michael Jordan, George W. Bush, and Olympic Gold medalist Apolo Ohno all have in common? Your first thought might be success in their particular field. While that is true, all of them attribute their personal success to one thing: having a buddy, mentor, or coach who brought the best out of them. They each had someone in their lives who instructed, encouraged, pushed, trained, and taught them to pursue excellence, assisting them in reaching their dreams.</div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">
Almighty God, we offer our gifts in gratitude – not just for what you do in our lives, but for who you are in our lives. You are with us in the person of the Father, the God above us. You come to meet us as the Son, as God beside us. You empower us to do the work of kingdom-building by the Holy Spirit, God within us, providing strength and boldness that we would never find on our own. May these gifts be tools that make the transformation of the world a reality. We pray in the name of one God, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. <b>Amen</b>. Stress hurts your brain; it can also ravage your body. Because of your brain-body connection, whenever you feel stressed, your body tries to tell you that something isn’t right. For example, high blood pressure or a stomach ulcer might develop after a particularly stressful event, such as the death of a loved one. Chronic stress weakens your body’s immune system, making you more likely to get colds, flu bugs, and other infections during emotionally difficult times. Stress has also been implicated in heart disease, hypertension, and even cancer. What one thing can you do to reduce your stress today?</div>
