PRAYER FOR ILLUMINATION

God, we know you are with us. From everlasting to everlasting, you are God. You have showered your love upon all generations, since the beginning of time. From everlasting to everlasting, you are God. Guide us now through this time of worship, and into the week ahead. From everlasting to everlasting, you are God. AMEN

DAILY READINGS

Psalm 1

1:1 Happy are those who do not follow the advice of the wicked, or take the path that sinners tread, or sit in the seat of scoffers;
1:2 but their delight is in the law of the LORD, and on his law they meditate day and night.
1:3 They are like trees planted by streams of water, which yield their fruit in its season, and their leaves do not wither. In all that they do, they prosper.
1:4 The wicked are not so, but are like chaff that the wind drives away.
1:5 Therefore the wicked will not stand in the judgment, nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous;
1:6 for the LORD watches over the way of the righteous, but the way of the wicked will perish.

ABUNDANT HEALTH

Reversing Automatic Habits
Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Romans 12:2 (NIV)

Diets, quit-smoking plans, and other self-help efforts based on willpower eventually fail. The entire time you are forcing yourself to change, you are under tension because your old thought patterns are unconsciously telling you to keep doing what you’ve always done. We get tired of doing what feels “unnatural” and soon quit exercising, or start smoking again, or return to our bad habits and destructive ways of relating to others.

The good news is that God can change your mental autopilot far faster than you can. He specializes in renewing your mind. That new mind-set will change the way you feel, which will change the way you act. —Pastor Rick Warren

PRAYER OF THANKSGIVING

Holy God, you continually work to transform the brokenness of this world into your Kingdom. You lift us up when we stumble, so that we may honor you and live for your noble purposes. Embolden our congregation to tell others about your Son Jesus, whose presence brings new life. Fill our hearts with your Spirit’s gift of generosity, so that our lives and our offerings will transform the world. Amen
